Jakarta, 19 December 2025

The Industrial Engineering Department of BINUS University hosted an International Exchange Student Insights Sharing Seminar on December 19, 2025, at the BINUS University @Syahdan Campus, Jakarta, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen internationalization and cross-cultural learning. The event was initiated by Dr. Ir. Rienna Oktarina, S.T., M.T., CSCA, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department, and Aditya Andika, S.T., M.B.A., a lecturer in the department, and featured exchange students currently enrolled in courses hosted by the Industrial Engineering Department.

The seminar was held in conjunction with an Industrial Engineering Lab Exploration session, facilitated by Amir Tjolleng, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., Dr. Rida Zuraida, ST., MT., Muhammad Kevin Perdana, S.T., M.T., lecturers in the department, along with a team of laboratory assistants: Bayu Pamungkas W., S.T., Made Adistha Subaga, Lydhia Firlanda Putri Maharani, Bangkit Pramesta Yulianto, Adinda Ardita Salsabila Rifai, S.T., and Siti Wahyuni, S.S. During the guided tour, the exchange students explored the department’s laboratories and gained firsthand insight into applied learning and research activities within the Industrial Engineering discipline.

The session was moderated by Ira Widiastuti, S.T., who served as the Master of Ceremony (MC), and officially opened with remarks delivered by Aditya Andika, S.T., M.B.A. and Amir Tjolleng, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., lecturers from the Industrial Engineering Department. The audience consisted of student laboratory assistants and faculty members, who actively engaged with the presentations and interactive discussions.

The seminar provided a platform for exchange students completing one semester in Indonesia to share academic and professional experiences from different countries, offering valuable global perspectives to the BINUS University academic community.

Academic Perspectives: Studying in the Netherlands and Indonesia

Two exchange students from the Netherlands, Lucas Daniel Langeveld and Famke Freja Schrijver, presented a comparative overview of higher education systems in Dutch and Indonesian universities.

Lucas discussed differences in learning styles and campus study time, noting that at his university in the Netherlands, students are expected to be on campus daily, where they attend classes followed by lab sessions and project work, emphasizing independent learning and hands-on application. In contrast, at BINUS University in Indonesia, he only needed to be on campus when courses were scheduled, highlighting a more flexible approach to campus presence. He also shared interesting stories about his travel experiences across Indonesia.

Famke explored variations in academic culture and student engagement, including classroom interaction, communication between students and lecturers, and campus life. She also shared her own memorable travel experiences in Indonesia and reflected on valuable lessons she learned during her exchange, which she believes will be useful for her future career and personal development.

International Competition Experience: Formula Student in the United Kingdom

Thibaud Patrick Jean Lefebvre from France shared his experience participating in a Formula Student car competition in the United Kingdom, a highly popular and prestigious student competition. Thibaud explained how the event integrates engineering design, business planning, and strategic thinking, challenging teams to design, build, and race a formula-style vehicle, giving students the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them.

This hands-on experience allowed him to develop strong teamwork, project management, and problem-solving skills in a competitive international environment. He also expressed hope that BINUS University would be inspired to participate in future Formula Student competitions, giving students the opportunity to apply their engineering knowledge in practical, multidisciplinary projects.

Professional Experience: Data Analytics Internship in Spain

Vincent Michel Gerard Gagnant from France shared his experience as a Data Analytics intern at a world-class automotive engineering company that provides design, testing, and homologation services globally. In his role, he analyzed data from various car sensors to enhance operational efficiency and support strategic decision-making.

Vincent emphasized the importance of data-driven insights, interdisciplinary collaboration, and adaptability when working in a multinational corporate environment, highlighting how analytics can directly impact engineering and business outcomes.

Strengthening Internationalization and Knowledge Sharing

The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion between presenters and participants. Through this initiative, the Industrial Engineering Department of BINUS University reaffirmed its commitment to fostering global perspectives, experiential learning, and knowledge exchange, providing opportunities for both students and faculty to engage with international experiences and interdisciplinary insights.
