Industrial Engineering BINUS University Welcomes Academic Visit from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta through the Industrial Engineering Collaboration Forum
On June 10, 2026, the Industrial Engineering Department of BINUS University organized the Industrial Engineering Collaboration Forum: Academic Visit, Laboratory Tour, and Student Organization Experience Exchange, welcoming students and faculty members from the Industrial Engineering Department of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). The event was held at M2CD, BINUS University Syahdan Campus, commencing at 1:20 PM.
The event began with an opening speech delivered by Dr. Ir. Rienna Oktarina, S.T., M.T., CSCA, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at BINUS University. In her remarks, she expressed appreciation for the academic visit conducted by the students and faculty members of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. She also highlighted the importance of fostering academic relationships between institutions and exploring future opportunities for collaboration in education, research, and student development.

The welcoming session was followed by remarks from the UNY delegation, represented by Ir. Mohammad Adam Jerusalem, Ph.D. He expressed gratitude for the warm reception provided by BINUS University and emphasized the value of the forum as a platform for knowledge sharing and mutual learning among students and academics from both institutions.

Following the opening remarks, the event proceeded with a knowledge-sharing session. The first presentation was delivered by Dr. Dyah Lestari Widaningrum, S.T., M.T. from BINUS University on the topic “Geospatial Data Analytics in Industrial Engineering.” The session introduced participants to the application of geospatial data analytics in supporting decision-making processes and solving various industrial engineering challenges.
The second presentation was delivered by Dr. Broto Widyo Hartanto, M.M., M.Sc. from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta on the topic “Dark Factory.” The presentation explored the concept of highly automated manufacturing systems that leverage advanced digital technologies to operate with minimal human intervention, demonstrating the future direction of smart industrial operations.
After the sharing session concluded, the visiting students and faculty members from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta participated in a laboratory tour across several facilities managed by the Industrial Engineering Department of BINUS University. The tour aimed to introduce participants to the department’s learning, research, and innovation facilities that support student development and practical learning experiences.
The first destination was the Manufacturing Process Laboratory. Participants were introduced to various equipment and facilities that enable students to transform innovative ideas into prototypes and practical solutions. The laboratory serves as a space for experimentation, creativity, and hands-on learning in manufacturing-related subjects.
The tour then continued to the Computer Laboratory, where students were introduced to several digital projects developed by BINUS University students. Participants also received explanations regarding the software applications and technological tools utilized in industrial engineering courses and projects.
The next stop was the Ergonomic Laboratory. During this session, participants explored a variety of ergonomics-related facilities, including the ergobike, footstep, Rokoko Motion Capture System, driving simulator, and anthropometer. Explanations were provided regarding the functions of each device and their applications in ergonomics education and research.
Participants then visited the Smart Manufacturing Laboratory, where they observed a miniature smart manufacturing system that demonstrates an integrated industrial process from upstream to downstream operations. The model illustrates the workflow beginning with material sorting, followed by processing and material handling activities, and ending with product storage. Through this demonstration, participants gained valuable insights into the implementation of Industry 4.0 concepts within modern manufacturing environments.

In addition to the students, faculty members from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta actively participated in the laboratory tour and engaged in discussions regarding laboratory facilities, teaching methodologies, research activities, and potential opportunities for future academic collaboration between the two institutions.
Following the laboratory visits, all participants returned to the M2CD venue for the closing session. The event concluded with a plaque exchange ceremony as a symbol of appreciation and the strengthening of institutional ties between the Industrial Engineering Department of BINUS University and the Industrial Engineering Department of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. The forum officially ended with a group photo session involving students, faculty members, and representatives from both institutions.

Overall, the event was conducted successfully and provided meaningful benefits to both institutions through knowledge exchange, academic interaction, and exposure to laboratory facilities that support the development of competencies in Industrial Engineering. The Industrial Engineering Collaboration Forum served as an important platform for strengthening inter-university relationships while fostering future collaboration in education, research, and student activities.
