Tools used to predict readmissions not up to the task
Hospitals could use some talented industrial engineers to revamp the models they use to predict patient readmissions.26 validated hospital readmission risk prediction models found 14 that could be used for comparison purposes, based on Journal of American Medical Association. Few models examined variables that relate to overall health and function, illness severity or social determinants of health, the researchers wrote in the JAMA article.Accurate predictions could help hospitals pick patients who would benefit from interventions.
